A Look At The New 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV April 25 2023, The Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is all-new for 2023, a year after the standard Outlander underwent a makeover of its own. A number of new additions have made the Outlander PHEV a formidable competitor in the three-row hybrid SUV segment. More Space, Great Value 2023 marks the first time the Outlander PHEV gets a third row of seating, which comes as standard no matter which of the five trims you select – ES S-AWC, LE S-AWC, SEL S-AWC, GT S-AWC and GT Premium S-AWC. Starting at $46,538, the Outlander is one of the few PHEV models available on the market for 2023 that gets three rows of seating. Even with the third row, the second row has more headroom and legroom than previous, the first row has more legroom, and there’s more rear cargo space. More Range, More Performance Speaking of value: not only is the cost of entry competitive – the 2023 Outlander has a lower cost of entry than the two-row Toyota RAV4 Prime – but thanks to a newly-developed hybrid system, the Outlander PHEV will have you pulling up to the pump even less than before thanks to an all-electric driving range of over 60 km thanks to a 20-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Those that spend most of their time driving around the city and who are able to plug-in at home will be able to spend much of their time on EV power alone. In order to help drivers get the most out of the powertrain, it can be set to six levels of power regeneration including one-pedal driving. Combined power for the 2023 Outlander PHEV is rated at 248 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, sent to the wheels via a continuously-variable automatic transmission. In addition to having three rows of seating and space for up to seven occupants, the Outlander PHEV comes standard with the Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) AWD system. What S-AWC does is make use of the active stability control, active centre differential and active yaw control systems to monitor what’s happening beneath the wheels and around the Outlander and adjust power distribution accordingly. This helps with everything from reducing stopping distances to reducing body movements, keeping occupants more comfortable. Interior Upgrades and Features In addition to having more space inside than previous, the 2020 Outlander PHEV gets a number of tech additions as well as material upgrades. Nine-speaker Bose audio and a 10.9-inch heads-up display are available, as are massaging front seats – a PHEV exclusive feature -- and semi-aniline leather seating surfaces. All PHEV models come standard with a digital driver display with unique gauges displaying EV performance and battery charge level.
